“We teachers can only help the work going
on, as servants wait for a master.”

- Maria Montessori

Programs Overview

THE MONTESSORI CLASSROOM environment is a caring, sharing, peaceful and unhurried place.  Multi-age groupings promote an atmosphere where children can help and learn from each other.  Here, the child makes individual choices based on capabilities, exercises self-discipline and discovers ways to solve progressively complex problems.  The Montessori teacher prepares the enriched environment, introduces the materials, and guides each through every process as rapidly as individual abilities will allow while maintaining an understanding of concepts. Children learn not only how to read and write, but will begin to respond creatively to challenges while being encouraged to think, communicate and express personal ideas.

Community life is also an important component of this educational approach.  Montessori children begin to take responsibility for their own environment and others as they become contributing members of the social group.

The classrooms are fully equipped with Montessori materials and are staffed by trained, certified, and experienced teachers who respect the needs of the children and are dedicated to making a positive difference.

THE MONTESSORI PROGRAM is designed to fulfill the needs of all children in various age levels and in many different areas:

PRACTICAL LIFE:  This area promotes coordination, orderliness and self-confidence. Your child’s experiences include care of self, care of environment and control of movement.

SENSORIAL:  These materials assist your child in learning to differentiate between sizes, colors, weights, textures, sounds, odors and tastes.  Sensorial exercises promotion of organization and classification skills.

LANGUAGE:  This area employs a phonetic approach to learning to read.  Vocabulary enrichment activities enable your child to classify the various environments, strengthen vocabulary and develop communication skills.  Working with different exercises cultivates handwriting skills.

MATHEMATICS:  Initially, your child is presented with concrete materials and manipulatives in order to build a solid foundation in understanding math concepts.  As the various skills are mastered and the concepts become more complex, more abstract work is then introduced.

GEOGRAPHY:  The children learn about the world around them, cultural diversity and distant lands.  Their experiences include working with globes, maps, flags and land forms.

SCIENCE:  Children learn about living and non-living things, parts of plants and animals, and begin to make scientific observations and discoveries.

MUSIC:  The focus is to develop an appreciation for music.  The children sing, dance and learn the basics of music.

ART:  A natural part of the Montessori classroom which encourages individual expression, this area is process rather than product oriented.
